I don't think that was about the Block-for-TD risk. I think it was the cumulative risk of that Block-TD + large punt return (w/ or w/o TD) + TD on short field. In that sense, I think it was the right call. MSU always needed more than a FG (not mathematically but realistically) to fin no matter what.

Plus, now there's a CHANCE to reset the field position game.

This team just continues to shoot itself.

Unless you give them the ball at the 50 anyway

Like kicking the ball out of bounds to hand OSU the ball at the 50 after handing them 2 points in an attempt to reset field position?

That's right. It's only a *proven* correct decision if OSU doesn't score another TD this game. But it could be the right game theory decision even if it fails that. Just based on given MSU the better chance to keep OSU under 14.

Dantonio has always been a guy thinking about big plays and the emotion of his team, and that decision looked more about not giving up a big play than the simple nuts and bolts of the call.

Let's hope that's a groin kick and not a core injury.

Well that's not an injury we can afford to sustain.  Big loss just for this third down play alone.  He's been MSUs best defender today

One of these has to go into the end zone right?

For the sake of the defense's endurance (as well as scoring/field position), the MSU offense *has* to take this 30-50 yards.

Nope.
Story of the game is this OSU punter.  He has no joke been the MVP.  In a defensive struggle putting three straight inside the 2 is unreal.
