He was the first QB, and possibly the first recruit, Mel Tucker offered when he got there, and MSU seemed to be in pretty good with him, until Tennessee got involved.  Early on, it was thought he would go to MSU or Baylor.

he had a very down year this year compared to 2023. still think there's potential there with him. even with the down year, definitely miles better than what Michigan had at QB with Davis Warren & Alex Orji this year.

Is that different than #3 (not getting the playing time you wanted, and that's not going to change)?
yes, senior LB John Bullock had a fine season for the Huskers after walking on 5 years ago.
Didn't sniff the 2-deep for 3 years, just worked
Last season earned some playing time, decided to come back for another season and had a fine season as a starter

kids like him won't have that opportunity to have a spot on the team then hang around and develop
_______________
many other examples of kids that work 4 or 5 seasons to add depth (not getting playing time) or play special teams or work on the scout team

The old rule was 85 scholarships and unlimited walk ons.  Now it's a hard cap at 105, but they can all be on scholarship.  So schools like Nebraska simply can't keep all the walk ons they had
So this is a one-time thing because of a rule change.

But it's the same basic issue as #3: transferring because not good enough to play (or not right for the system) at the school they are at.

yes, only once do they cut rosters from 155 to 105

but, those 50 kids each year will never be on the roster again

the G5 schools and the FBS teams are going to get better players trickling down

SEC did, did the Big Ten do so as well?

so if SEC/B1G keep it at 85 does that mean they can still have all the walk-ons they want? or is overall roster still hard capped at 105?

105 is an NCAA rule, so they still can't go over that

ok so if you can't have as many walk-ons as you want, what's the point of self-imposing a cap it at 85? an attempt at parity?
