Anywho, mostly fine with UW's opening opponent. Didn't really want to see Arkansas there. Would've preferred Kansas, maybe Alabama? Couldn't have been Nebraska.
I hate them being sent West.

AGAIN.

Tampa would have been great.

Had Nebraska been a 3 seed in the South Region, as some predicted, they would have met the same Penn Quakers who defeated the Huskers 90-80 in 1994. Nebraska meets Troy on Thursday in Oklahoma City.

Illinois is the #3 seed in the south - lookout for the Quakers

The 5 seed curse. Excited that it’s relatively early tip, though.

Five since 1999. And often that’s a 4-6 problem, though Badgers had it with a three last year.

It’s a little weird because you tend to get pileups in the Midwest (especially upper) and Southeast (especially upper).

So you get a blend of weird east, occasionally lower Southeast and a lot of west dumping.

But we kept out Auburn. Embrace the small victories.
For everyone who appreciates quality basketball this is obviously not a victory.

Auburn finished the year 17-16 and was left out.

The losses:

  • 11 regular season SEC losses.
  • 1 SEC Tournament loss.
  • 4 OOC losses.

The AD can't do anything about the SEC regular season and tournament loss but he absolutely can do something about the OOC losses.

The tragedy of yesterday is that the committee sent a clear and unequivocal message to every AD in the country.  That message is that they should look to CFB and embrace the Bill Snyder School of scheduling.

Did Auburn lose to four fellow bubble teams?  No, they lost to two #1 seeds (Arizona and Michigan) and two #2 seeds (Purdue and Houston).

If Auburn had instead scheduled four rotting corpses (perhaps Trinity Christian was available after they played the Redskinshawks) they'd be 21-12 and preparing for the NCAAT.  Instead they scheduled quality opponents and now they are in the Not Invited Tournament and they'll watch the real one on TV.

Auburn was one game over .500, went 7-11 in their conference, had an overtime win over Bethune-Cookman that was the difference between them having a winning and losing record. At best they were a very average team with a tough schedule. And we want to leave out an undefeated team for that? Blech.

They finished #43 in Strength of Record.  15 spots behind Miami.  But ahead of Texas, NC State and SMU
