2001 Season opener for Nebraska. TCU played Nebraska tough in Lincoln, a 21-7 Husker win. Eric Crouch goes on to win the Heisman. Highlight of the season is Nebraska's home win over Oklahoma made famous by the reverse pass to Crouch putting the Huskers up for good, 20-10 late in the 4th. Huskers go on to the National Championship, losing to Miami.

Looking back, 2001 is the last Nebraska team that felt untouchable. The next season, watching Penn State blow out Nebraska 40-7 during a night game in State College, I remember thinking this might be a down year. Turns out it was a different program from the dominance we were used to through the 90s.

Turns out it was a different program from the dominance we were used to through the 90s.

Here's one of Nebraska's 2002 games that left college football fans realizing this was worse than a down year for the Cornhuskers. The program was resetting downward.

"It's the story for Nebraska all day - turnovers, stupid penalties, not executing well at all."
"This didn't look much like the Cornhuskers. It suddenly looked more like the artist formerly known as Nebraska."

#21 Iowa State blows out #19 Nebraska 36-14 in Ames. Cyclones improve to 5-1 while Nebraska drops to 3-2, leaving the Conrhuskers out of the rankings for the first time in years.

For 2002, the eye-opener for me was the brutal beating they took a week prior in Happy Valley.

40-7. I thought that was going to be an epic matchup. I was really wrong.

THIS WEEK IN HUSKER HISTORY

1978: Nebraska’s game at Alabama is moved up from Nov. 25 to the night of Sept. 2 for a national ABC telecast. Neither team had ever opened its season earlier than Sept. 8.

1998: Frank Solich’s debut as head coach gets moved up a week as Nebraska accepts an offer to play host to Louisiana Tech in the Eddie Robinson Classic on Aug. 29.

The Colorado Buffaloes officially started selling single-game tickets on Wednesday, and Nebraska football fans absolutely pounced.

That Nebraska football fans are more than a little interested in tickets for the Buffs game in Boulder should surprise no one. The last time the Huskers traveled to that city, the fans attended en masse. In fact, they showed up in such volume that CU fans have been complaining about it ever since, even though they won the game.

Today’s events however, are impressive even for a Nebraska football fanbase that always travel well, even in the lean years. Once single game tickets went on sale on Wednesday morning, it took no time at all for Husker fans to crash the party.

Then they crashed the website.

Notice the timestamp there. 45 minutes after the tickets went on sale, Nebraska football fans had flooded the site with ticket requests. The game is a little less than four months away.

One interesting tidbit is that Colorado both knew and prepared for Husker fans to come calling. A quick look at ticket prices for the game against Nebraska football shows that there is some significant price gauging going on.

The tickets are separated into five “zones” and then two clubs. For Zone 5, which is apparently the cheapest group of tickets available, seats are going for $315. In contrast, the next most expensive home game ticket is USC, with seats on Zone 5 going for $185. Zone 1 tickets, the most expensive zone up for offer, are being sold for $650 apiece. USC seats in the same area are selling for $405.

Kinda hoping Nebraska shellacs the Golden Buffs.  Very possible given the situations in Boulder and Lincoln.
A decade of Victory over Penn State.

All in since 1969
