Oscar Gamble died. Age 68. Ameloblastic carcinoma, a rare cancer of the jaw. Wife said he never chewed tobacco.
Apparently he possessed an effusive personality. Hit 31 homers for the south side hit men in 1977. But, played mostly for the Yankees and a slew of other teams.

Jim Thome is a thoughtful Hall of Famer, and actually quite forward looking. He will be associated with the future of the Cleveland Indians look, not the past. He wants to discuss with MLB using the Block "C" for his cap that was not much used by him until his 2011 return to Cleveland. In 20-years it will probably be their most recognizable logo.

Truer words were never spoken.
I'll remember Jim Thome for the first walkoff HR in the first season at Target Field, a 400+ foot monster onto the right field plaza.

I saw that Cleveland is eliminating the cartoon character from all of its logos for the future.

"True" fans who would be too emotionally scarred by his absence can still buy Chief Wahoo gear after 2019 at Cleveland's ballpark and their Spring Training Park in Goodyear, AZ.

Placating the backwards-thinking fan is important, I guess.

I know we missed each other this weekend OAM, but I didn't see much Chief Wahoo apparel on display at Maryvale Sunday for the Indians v Brewers.  My kids (girls) notice everything with MLB logos, and while they don't have any understanding of the logo, history, or anything like that, they were preoccupied on whether or not Cleveland was the Indians first, or were the Indianapolis Indians 'first'.   Indy took the nickname in 1902, before Cleveland picked it up in 1915, after they were several names prior to that (Naps, Broncos, Bluebirds).  They had fun taking pictures with the racing Sausages.

I noticed a lot of grapefruit league apparel which sounds strange. We were talking to some Tigers fans Saturday at Salt River Fields, they just love the density of venues, and my reason (AZ weather can't be beat).

We had a great trip, was a little disappointed we didn't get to see Ohtani in action.  He pitched (dominated) a 'B' game on Friday against the Crew, while we were at Maryvale for M's/Brewers.  He didn't play when we went up to Peoria Sat night.   Braun actually looked pretty good at 1B to my surprise.   They have to make some moves though with the glut of OFs.

Salt River Fields (Dbacks/Rockies home) remains the gold standard park in AZ to me, but Peoria is still a great place, they've done a lot of great things to the park.

Yeah, sorry about that.  I just never saw your replies until hours after the fact.

Right, I think the logo can only be purchased at CLE's home parks.  I was at the CLE@MIL game as well, and bumped into a guy I used to work with.  I was specifically looking at Braun at 1b, he made one good pick on a near double-play, but that's about all I noticed.

My friend asked me what the best Cactus League park is, because he knows I've visited all 10 almost every year for the past 5-6 years (until the prices started getting stupid) - and Salt River is probably #1.  Camelback, Sloan, and Peoria are nice - although I don't like all the stuff they've added in Peoria.  Two years ago, there was tons of grassy area around the park, but within the fences, so you could play catch if you wanted to for a couple of innings, but now they covered much of it up with 'stuff'.

Honestly, the only big problem with Peoria is the teams, lol.  No one cares about SEA or SD.  Oh, and in Surprise, if you get a ticket in the upper area, it's a great view.

I had planned on going to the LAA@SEA game, but thought tickets would be cheap.  $30 is kind of crazy - I don't care about either of those teams.

I guess I'm sort of drawing a line in the sand with ticket prices.  First it was the Giants, then the Cubs, and now it's spreading everywhere.

The Brewers might be in the ghetto, they don't have a fancy scoreboard, but their ticket prices are posted on actual, physical signs.  None of this premium game BS - IT'S SPRING TRAINING!  How can you have a premium game that doesn't count?!?

Hell, next year, I'll probably just alternate between Brewers and Reds' games......sigh.

This will be my only post in the thread - The Pittsburgh Baseball Club will stink this year and I hope no one supports that pathetic ownership group.

Made it out to Hohokam in Mesa for some Rangers/A's action last week, my first trip there. It's a very solid park with great views everywhere IMO.
I thought I settled my debts that night on the ride home
But I have still got hell to pay

Pretty sad that Montreal couldn't win something back when they had Raines, Dawson, Carter, etc. Those were some good teams that won a lot of games but just couldn't get over the top.
Even moreso the strike shortened '94 season, the Expos were far and away the best team in baseball.  Cost them a possible WS and ultimately the friggin franchise.

Sorry, but I'll be heading out a number of times, just because I enjoy spending summer nights in that park.
