As a White Sox fan, I am starting to feel like a Cub fan. Wait 'til next year!

Tigers trade Justin Upton to the Angels for mid-level prospect SP Spencer Long, and a PTBNL.

Once the Tigers decided to enter a rebuild, and Upton performed well enough that he wasn't going to cost himself money, he informed the team he was going to use his opt out after the year.

So they got something for a month of Upton, once they are long out of it.  I'll take it.

And correspondingly the Angels move Maybin to the Astros, which seems like an odd move.

Why in the hell didn't the Angels (or somebody) do that trade 2 months ago?!?

He wasn't showing his hand regarding his opt out until right now.  The return on a rental vs. team control for 4 years on a productive player vs. 4 years of a bad contract is very different.
Hell most Tigers fans were simply hoping he'd have a good enough season to opt out.
Now it sounds like Verlander to Astros was a done deal and the Astros pulled out last minute.  Cubs prepared to go all in on him over the winter.  Some light rumors of him to the Dodgers for Verdugo, which I don't get from LAs perspective, unless Kershaw isn't going to be healthy.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- On a night when Mike Trout twice got thrown out at the plate, the Los Angeles Angels still found a way to score big in the standings.

Pinch-hitter Ben Revere lined a go-ahead single in the 10th inning that diving left fielder Matt Joyce just missed, and the Angels took over the second AL wild-card spot by beating the Oakland Athletics 8-7 on Tuesday night.

The Angels moved a half-game ahead of Minnesota, which lost at Tampa Bay. The Angels are five games over .500 for the first time since the end of the 2015 season.

LOS ANGELES -- The NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers lost their 10th straight game for their worst skid in 25 years, routed by Mark Reynolds and the Colorado Rockies 8-1 Sunday.

Verdugo hit his first career HR.

I've got to assume no 1st place team has ever lost 10 straight.  And if they had, I guarantee they weren't still 9 games clear of the next team.

Particularly when that team is coming off a franchise record winning streak

On August 25, the Indians were 19.5 GB of LA for the best record in baseball.

Now they are 4.

So they've closed the gap by 15.5 games in 17 days.
