Michigan RB coach Mike Hart is back in Ann Arbor and doing well, hopes to rejoin the team soon. Mike Hart's old RB coach when he was a player at Michigan- good old Fred Jackson- has been given a waiver by the NCAA to be the interim RBs coach at Michigan in Hart's absence.

According to PFF, Michigan EDGE Mike Morris ranks 4th in the nation with a 25.0% pass rush win rate. Bama's stud EDGE defenders Will Anderson and Dallas Turner are both at around a 19% pass rush win rate, and last year Michigan's star EDGE rushers- Aidan Hutchinson finished at 25.0% and David Ojabo at 19.4% pass rush win rate.

On passing downs Morris leads the nation with a win rate of 46.5%, which would've led all power five edge rushers last season. For comparison last year Hutchinson and Ojabo were at 36.6% and 29.0% respectively.

Mike Morris already has 25 total pressures, which is tied for 10th in the country among edge rushers, but every edge rusher ahead of him has had at least 20 more pass rush snaps. Those 25 total pressures have come on 111 pass rush snaps, good for a pressure rate of 22.5%. Hutchinson and Ojabo had pressure rates of 17.4% and 14.4% in 2021. For comparison BAMA studs Will Anderson and Dallas Turner have pressure rates of 17.5% and 14.2% this season.

Mike Morris also has an 88.0 pass rush grade from PFF, which is good for 7th in the country among edge rushers with at least 100 pass rush snaps. Better than Will Anderson or Dallas Turner so far this season and better than 2021 David Ojabo.

I was seriously worried about this pass rush after the first couple games vs that terrible OOC slate, but it's come alive in conference play. Mike Morris is taking that next jump as a pass rusher and Eyabi Okie has been getting better every week and looking like a steal in the transfer portal.

The MGoBlog guys are calling Mason Graham the best freshman DT they've seen since Alan Branch.

I would agree with that. I don't think it's close. True freshman have rarely even played at DT at Michigan let alone at an above average level. Mason Graham has been balling out at the spot- as a true frosh. That's very rare at Michigan.

Maybe more people should've seen him coming though- he only literally dominated the very top HS competition in the state of California and maybe even the toughest in the entire country for 4 years in HS. MaxPreps/USA Today have both proclaimed The Trinity League in SoCal to be the toughest HS football competition in America.

James Franklin is 3-5 vs Michigan at Penn State and 1-3 in Ann Arbor. His win in Ann Arbor came in 2020- the dreaded COVID year- which was probably one of the worst seasons in Michigan football history.
Ya and UM ducked out of the last game of the year - that cuts both ways -. OSU lost 4 starters in the NCG to covid vs Bama who had 0 sit out,so back to your regularly scheduled programming

Harbaugh is always looking for his finest hour in this matchup.  Luckily, it will probably be a 4 hour game, so lots of opportunities.

Michigan has got to open up the offense if they want a victory in this one. Penn State is too good of a team all-around and has too good of a defense to try to just play them straight up.

They need to pass it more on 1st down. They need to use designed QB runs. They need to call bootleg passes to get JJ on the perimeter and throwing on the run more. They need to give JJ more RPO plays- like that one he pulled out of Corum's chest then threw to the TE for a TD. Most of all this has basically been non-existent in their offensive scheme. They need to call a couple designed QB runs to make PSU worry about his legs. They need to start using motion and play-action in the passing game- which has been non-existent. Klatt pointed out a great point- when they actually do use motion it's a run nearly 100% of the time. They haven't used the play-action hardly at all.

Need to mix things up, break tendencies, take some shots down the field, and throw in wrinkles on offense or they'll get beat by a really good team. Can't just line up and play arrogantly on offense or they'll get beat. Need to get creative a little bit and take the governor off the engine.

Jeem couldn't pull him even if he wanted at this point. Which may be why he's been playing it safe in the run game. Cade is still injured and out for at least a couple more weeks, and their 3rd string QB Alan Bowman didn't travel with the team to Bloomington and rumors are he's dealing with an undisclosed injury. Which means that all they have behind him right now is Davis Warren- a walk-on and Alex Orji a true frosh that is more athlete than QB if we're being honest.

Olympic gold medal champion swimmer and Michigan alum Michael Phelps will serve as the honorary captain for the Michigan football team this Saturday against Penn State.

Could help DL with their swim moves.

Rumor is that Cade McNamara is planning to enter the transfer portal.
