I was giving Pruitt the benefit of doubt but he has proven himself incapable. I don’t know what the problems are other than horrid QB development and Pruitt seems to be a totalitarian like Saban but lacks the pedigree to obtain the respect earned to rule with an iron fist.
Pruitt also seems to have lost many players. They are not bought on for some reason. There have been too many players (and ex-players) that have said as much and where there is smoke there is likely a fire smoldering.
Speaking of horrid QB play. We have been told for several years now that JG was the best we had. Backups would come into the game and stink it up. Well, other than Maurer before he got hurt last year. They’d hand the ball of a million times and then on 3rd and 9 they’d have the backup attempt a pass making the odds extremely challenging. Then afterwards Pruitt would point toward the backups QB play in such situations to substantiate his reasoning for playing JG.
Well, just this week with JG on the sidelines while going through concussion protocol Pruitt says the QB’s have had the best practice week since he’s been at TN. That’s with HB and BM leading practices. Wow. That leads me to suspect that the backups have never really been given the opportunity to show what they could do. JG was anointed the starter because he’s been in the system longer and as such he’s a better game manager.
If, and that’s a big if, HB or BM were playing I’d be willing to give Pruitt a pass as HB or BM gained experience but I can’t waste my time watching JG. He’s tough as nails but he doesn’t have what it takes to be a gun slinger. You can tell the WR’s don’t have faith in him by the way they play vs when BM is in the game. Long term I think HB will be the guy.
