It's Football Time in Tennessee
« on: September 02, 2021, 03:41:37 PM »
I'm looking forward to the start of the Heupel era on The Hill tonight with offensive innovations and a lot of TDs.

Don't forget there's a link at the top of the Tennessee board for following college football this season. It provides a listing of the games, times, channels and updated real time scores.

Go Vols!

I am approaching this season-opener with mild interest.

But not any real enthusiasm.  15 years of fan abuse will do that to you.

Enthusiasm — like credibility, like trust — has to be EARNED.

Right now, the best I can muster is a tired old “hope for the best, expect the worse.”

My interest in college football in general, and Vol football in particular, is at an all-time nadir.  Years of incompetence and mediocrity, coupled with our chief rival’s unprecedented and interminable — and terminally boring — hyper-success —

yawn.

One incident of politically correct woke bullshit may be enough to kill the switch.

Not to mention that the athletic exploits of a bunch of over-developed kids who were in high school as recently as this spring have not been as irrelevant as they are now, since WWII.

For the first time in decades we have an all new structure.

New from the top down. (we needed that)

That excites me. (plus a coach that will do it the right way)

GO VOLS..........

How did Rocky Top become the school song when Tennessee Stud was right there?

Funny when I went to school there my freshman year I keep hearing this "Rocky Top" song and wondering why they keep playing it and thinking, "I guess they say the word "Tennessee" in it but I don't get why they keep playing it every game.  Then I come back my sophomore year and hear it again and I'm thinking, "what? they're playing it again this year, too?"  Took me a while to catch onto what was going on.

The Pride of The Southland played it at halftime during halftime of a 1972 game.
The crowd went wild and it just seemed to catch on from that time on.

If you can't get excited about the start of another UT football season you need to have someone check your pulse. You must be ill.
"FAN" is short for "Fanatic" for a reason

I was there in 72, first year of law school and attended all home games.

I didnt like Rocky Top.  Sounded like a place in Colorado, aint no rocky top in Tennessee.  Plus:  Too hokey, too country for me, and I assumed it would go away.  I liked Down the Field et al.

Boy, was I wrong, and today I like it.  A lot.

You were there with a friend and an acquaintance of mine
President Harry S. Truman said: “The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount.  The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings…  If we don't have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally wind up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.”
