I'm looking forward to the start of the Heupel era on The Hill tonight with offensive innovations and a lot of TDs.

I am approaching this season-opener with mild interest.
But not any real enthusiasm. 15 years of fan abuse will do that to you.
Enthusiasm — like credibility, like trust — has to be EARNED.
Right now, the best I can muster is a tired old “hope for the best, expect the worse.”
My interest in college football in general, and Vol football in particular, is at an all-time nadir. Years of incompetence and mediocrity, coupled with our chief rival’s unprecedented and interminable — and terminally boring — hyper-success —
yawn.
One incident of politically correct woke bullshit may be enough to kill the switch.
Not to mention that the athletic exploits of a bunch of over-developed kids who were in high school as recently as this spring have not been as irrelevant as they are now, since WWII.

Funny when I went to school there my freshman year I keep hearing this "Rocky Top" song and wondering why they keep playing it and thinking, "I guess they say the word "Tennessee" in it but I don't get why they keep playing it every game. Then I come back my sophomore year and hear it again and I'm thinking, "what? they're playing it again this year, too?" Took me a while to catch onto what was going on.

The Pride of The Southland played it at halftime during halftime of a 1972 game.
The crowd went wild and it just seemed to catch on from that time on.

I was there in 72, first year of law school and attended all home games.
I didnt like Rocky Top. Sounded like a place in Colorado, aint no rocky top in Tennessee. Plus: Too hokey, too country for me, and I assumed it would go away. I liked Down the Field et al.
Boy, was I wrong, and today I like it. A lot.

I always thought we adopted Rocky Top because it was so country it might keep the Carpet Baggers from moving south to go to UT.

Enthusiasm can quickly return. I hope it does. I miss it.
I look at my new neighbors up the road. Also clad in orange. And I’m covetous.
But I could as soon change my sexual preference as change my allegiance to UT, to root for another program (though if I COULD, Clemson would be an easy one to change to).
The Vols will always have my allegiance (unless they do something irredeemably woke). But they have to EARN back my enthusiasm.
The thing I’m most enthusiastic about right now is not having to watch JG another season… ( ^ ;

It’s nice to see team come out hyped for a change as well. That was definitely something missing under Pruitt. Always flat.
The team feeling good will help the fans to feel good.

Myrtle Point just past LeConte is my Rocky Top. Chimneys is not bad. Hiked both many times. Very beautiful.

I use to like to go up the front of them. Trail going that way has been closed for decades.
Got after the 80's I had rather hike on the Plateau just as nice and a lot less people

Anyway... it's going to be a season of having to outscore the opponent. That puts a lot of pressure on the O. One penalty, one bad call... momentum killed.

Lots of room for improvement. But some potential...
Hard to tell against such poor comp. 38 points in, essentially, three quarters.
D couldn't get off the field in the second... but seemed to adjust... didn't give up a TD.
That's good.
And we still could've easily scored three more TDs.
VERY interested in Pittsburgh game.
