College Football Playoff expansion: Board agrees to 12-team field

I don’t like this move at all. I think four teams is fine and if it has to expand eight teams should be the maximum.

I’ve thought about this a lot. I think it’s the right thing to do because as the power 5 shrink to the power 2 you have to keep the Sub-Power 3 engaged. The Big 10 and SEC will continue to rule, but this keeps everybody else engaged and watching. If you disenfranchise the rest of CFB you lose viewers and ratings.

Lots of great teams in that #9-12 spot. I expect that they will rarely go far, but sometimes they will and I think you legitimately can say nobody is being left out.

If the new proposed playoff format was in place this past season, Georgia would not have gotten one of the top four byes even though they were a 3 seed. Only the top four seeded conference champions get byes.

Fans of the 5th and 6th seeded teams will still complain that they weren’t one of the four that got a bye the first week.

I’m sure fans will love the increased possibility of teams meeting 3 times in a season. They already complain about rematches in the current playoff format.

Fans and students having to fly out to three different playoff games? That’ll be quite expensive for the average fans and students. Booking flights a week in advance aren’t cheap.

I’m sure a lot of the natural turf home fields will look great in late December.
