Week 9
« on: Today at 09:43:54 AM »
Cocktail Party this week.  My tradition of watching this game with my UGA buddy was interrupted for a couple of years by scheduling conflicts, and now it seems it's not a thing anymore.

AU @ Ole Miss -- I don't see that one going too well for the barn if the Rebears head is in the game.

USC @ OU -- might be a good one, though not one I particularly care about

Clanga @ TX -- Longhorns might struggle through another listless second half, but probably won't matter, Clanga has no QB and no defense

Mizzou @ Pigs -- not really interested, but hard not to pick the other, other Tigers.

Everybody else is off.

LSU gets this bye before gearing up for a brutal November stretch, with Alabama, Texas, and Tennessee all on deck in successive weeks.  Close out with Arkansas, and the rub there is that no matter how bad Arkansas is, LSU historically plays like crap up there.  Maybe the DNA of the team has changed, we'll see.  We had a good showing on the Plains last week, and that's unheard of.  It occurs to me that in this hyper-portal era where none of our players are from Louisiana or grew up caring about anything LSU, that cultural norm that used to be embedded in a program might all be gone now.  I guess that could be a benefit if Alabama isn't in any of these players' heads, as became the case with the old-era LSU rosters.  And if they can figure out that it's okay to rout bad Auburn and Arkansas teams in their own house.  For the time being, there's nothing about this final stretch that looks easy.

Clanga not in the Top 10 so I expect the Horns to lose.  Probably 27-24 on a late field goal after taking an early lead and then just disappearing.

Did you know that Texas fans and the Longhorn Band used to have cowbells in the stands?  When I started going to games in the 70s they were all over the place, same as Moo State.

It started tapering off in the 80s and 90s and then completely disappeared.  I think the B12 might have made a rule against artificial noisemakers or something that ultimately killed the tradition.  Thank the Good Lord!

The SEC also made a rule against artificial noisemakers, and promptly decided not to enforce it at all in StarkVegas.

Was wondering about the status of all that.

I think even the SWC eventually enforced its ban on artificial noise. Was considering what 100,000 cowbells might sound like.
