week 5 power rankings
« on: September 30, 2019, 11:43:53 AM »
1 - auburn - just getting to many good wins to not put them here for the moment. and they still have the worst of their schedule coming up, starting next weekend @uf. they'll have definitely earned it if they stay here by seasons end.
2 - bama - offense is just getting scary good. defense is struggling a little, but that's mostly the backups after game is well in hand. still, injuries seem to be piling up and even bama's depth chart will strain under that pressure.
3 - lsu - bye week gave them all they could handle, but lsu escapes without a loss.
4 - uga - gets back to back byes with tenn coming to town next weekend.
5 - uf - kinda coasting in the shadows for now, but a big statement can be made beating auburn next week.
6 - mizzou - another team on bye week, but with the way some others around them played, they're getting a bump.
7 - aTm - i guess here by default, though i'm starting to lose a faith that they're a top half sec team quickly.
8 - msu - just got trounced by au, but still better than rest imo.
9 - usc - impressive bounce back win vs uk. thought they'd fall apart, but they didn't. see if they can squeeze out a bowl. up hill battle for it.
10 - ole miss - playing a lot of young guys, and not terribly. still going to be a lot of growing pains for them.
11 - arkansas - might have life yet to get an sec win. probably going to have to be their next game, too.
12 - uk - thought they were going to be decent this year. not looking so good right now. at least they still have arky, tenn and vandy to get a good chance at sec wins.
13 - tenn - by default cause they have a win, albeit a terrible one.
14 - vandy - they be bad, and not in the good-bad way.

UGA plays in Knoxville Saturday night.

Bama - At A&M, at Auburn,  LSU.

Auburn - At Florida, at LSU, UGA, Bama (ouch)

LSU - Florida, @ Bama, Auburn, A&M  (A&M may not be that much)

UGA - Florida (NS), A&M, @ Auburn

Florida - UGA (NS), Auburn, @ LSU

A 2 loss SEC champ is possible.

While I'm expecting Auburn to beat Florida, it is true the Gators are just lurking in the shadows and can suddenly gain national respect with a blip win over Auburn.

I just can't see Florida scoring more than 10 points.  And while I doubt AU will put up a ton of points, they won't have to.  UF may wind up with negative yards rushing - the OL is that bad.

Ha, you have been bad mouthing your Gators who are undefeated and top ten ranked.  I have no idea about this game other than that I'll watch with some interest.

Not really too much to argue here, really.
Auburn is really looking good based on the competition they've played thus far compared to others.  Schedule isn't getting any easier. Mississippi State's defense played about as poor gap control/assignment football as I've seen in a while.

I'm a little concerned about what I'm seeing from LSU's defense. The offense is playing lights out obviously, the defense needs some work. But at least they do have a win over a top 10-11 team. Can this team run the football when they have to?

Bama is Bama and that WR corp is so good! Will any defense be able to cover a slant pass this year?

UGA-coming off the win vs. Notre Dame by listening to a lot of our fan base you'd think we lost that game. It's still a top 10 win and Notre Dame took care of Virginia this past weekend.
The motto for the off season was "Do More".  We would all like to see the offense "Do More", but they are averaging 500 yds of offense and 42 pts a game. They could still do better. Defense is looking solid.  Trip to Knoxville this weekend...when was the last time a visiting team came in there as a 22-25 pt favorite?

We will find out alot about Florida this weekend. I think Auburn wins this one on the road by 8-10 pts.

Going into the season i thought Texas A&M could make some noise, but after that game against Arkansas i just think they are not very good. (Arkansas should have won that game) and they haven't really put a scare in any of the ranked teams they've played so far.

I agree about A&M, they are probably an OK team this year, not the threat many of us expected preseason.

I favor Auburn a bit over Florida, something like 27-16 or so.  Auburn has an impressive DL that I think hits Florida at the weak spot.

A lot of key games left to play.
