LSU @ Florida

Used to be must-see TV, but for the past few years has replaced the Cocktail party, which for a while had degenerated into the conference's derpiest rivalry.

Florida has managed to make every meaningful game close, win or lose.  Can they put it all together at home and stomp on the throat of a hapless Tiger team and snap a 3 game losing streak?

Only seen 1 UF game against Tennessee, but for all their faults, the Gators are still a functioning football team, albeit probably not a great one.  Their low-end defense shouldn't hurt them much, since "bad" defense really only applies vs. functional offenses, which LSU does not have.

LSU may be able to make a game of it by frustrating Florida's offense some, but as the weeks go by it shows more and more that no matter how good the plan is, even when the kids execute it, the talent of previous tiger squads just isn't there.

LSU's special teams find new ways every week to cripple the team.  It was a death blow against Florida State, and while Tennessee probably wins anyway, giving them 10 points right out of the gate snowballed them to their doom.

Florida will probably keep all their spare cleats nailed to the benches.

Florida should win this.  If they don't then they have problems I don't know about.

florida is trending down... that twit they hired has all the bark and no bite.  they have punks on the field and surrounding (at least on defense) the fattest least obvious athlete i've ever seen- even beating out John Daly.....

that said- ol' billy ordered up a good plan vs. UT- he just couldn't pull it off (and it was WAY close).  he could likely do the same to LSU.

but here is the thing- LSU is trending up- Kelly is a good coach, and by his own admission was outcoached last week... i doubt he does that again... and i figure the team will respond to him... UF got out of the mizzou game on defense... their first SEC win and billy's first SEC win... they'll be proud of themselves still, and walk into a buzz saw.

LSU 36-42
UF 17-21

Florida is too disciplined. Florida beats the Orgerons something like 24 - 21.

We play both LSU and Florida this season.  Fla rushed for a ton of yards on LSU, which bodes well for our offense since Jimbo will try to run the ball as much as possible.  Not sure how good Florida's offense is but they scored 35.  Our offense really sucks this year, but our defense can be really good at times and really disruptive.  Most people will tell you that we were only in the Bama game because they turned it over 4 times, but some of those were our defense making plays and forcing turnovers.  Obviously Bryce Young not playing helped us immensely, but some of the TO were not on the QB.

We're at the point in our seasons where great things cannot happen.  Out of the conference race and certainly the national race.  But it would be nice to finish up with a few wins over old foes, namely LSU.

The hell I do say.

If you saw that coming from Daniels and the hapless noob O-line, you're a better man than me.

Anyway....what the hell is wrong with that team?  I read their defense isn't too hot this year, but giving up 45 to LSU is ridiculous.  Watching that game I couldn't help but think if LSU had a full roster instead of a measly 71 scholarship players it wouldn't have even been that close.  We appeared to wear down through the 4th quarter while Florida started to make their comeback.  This does not seem to be the same team that gave Tennessee all they wanted.

while I'm at it.....this Tom Petty thing needs to stop.  I don't know of any credible evidence that Petty gave two turds about the Gators or football in general, other than he reportedly watched Florida bowl games with his brother later in life because it reminded him of his childhood.

Tennessee and Florida escapes rivalry, at least on the Tennessee side.  It ventures into "voodoo curses" or something.   I'd leave that game alone when trying to gauge either team, especially Florida.

Kelly has to gel that team of his, and still some more.  Florida and cousin Billy down there are playing on emotional charge.  That can't hold up.  It just can't- at some point players put their good foot forward because that's what they're supposed to do, even if they don't want to, are tired, are confounded, or any other reason... UF is set to implode... and it may happen now.

LSU is still ironing out how to translate what Kelly expects of them- translating it to execution.

Kelly was outcoached in the UT game and by his own admission.  He got caught selling out one too many times and UT exploited it.  I didn't expect that two weeks in a row from him, and turns out i was right.  That's not some magical skill- that's untainted by emotional contact observation.  I'll even add that LSU is but a few this and that's away from breaking out.... next season will be a good one for them.

Eh....they'll be breaking in yet another QB next year.  The rest of the team stands to be improved, if they can buy into what Kelly is selling.

Speaking of....I joke about Angry Kelly, but I really don't like a coach cussing out his players.  I'm not just desensitized from years with Miles and Ogre...I know that wasn't their thing...but I've never liked it when any coach does it, and there is a way to blow your top and express frustration without directing it straight at the kid.  Getting caught on camera yelling "You stupid motherf**ker.  What the f*** were you thinking?" is not a good look.  Nobody cares about my opinion, but as far as it goes, he needs to win a LOT of games here, because I don't much care for his sideline demeanor.

Moving on....this was a big win for bowl eligibility.  We still have UAB left, so as long as we can take care of that, the extra bowl reps should be available to the kids no matter what happens the rest of the SEC schedule.  A lot of losable games coming up, although I'm revising my opinion to thinking we may have a puncher's chance against Ole Miss, however unlikely.  These kids, especially the O-line, needs the bowl practices in the worst way.
