BK in BR

Won't lie, it's really weird having a coach like Brian Kelly after 20 years of oddball speakers.  Saban was the most articulate of the bunch, but he still had an odd way of putting things sometimes--moreso in his LSU days than at Bama now--and he was full of coach-speak.  Les Miles was the king of stringing words together that you mostly knew exactly what he was saying, but you wonder how a brain ever thought to express it in those terms.  Orgeron probably had good things to say, but nobody ever understood anything coming out of his mouth.  There hasn't been an LSU coach in my adult life who talked normally and was so blunt with his answers.  Like, a small amount of coach-speak may be warranted at times.

That't not really the vibe at LSU.  We're a weird culture with some weird fans and weird coaches fit in here.  I hope he wins a lot of games, because he's not nearly as fun as any of the previous coaches.

Also, I haven't seen him blow his top through 4 games....haven't seen the little vein on his forehead pop out on his red-faced head.  I feel like we're not getting our money's worth.  I never paid attention to his pressers at Notre Dame, but I saw angry-Kelly on the sidelines a ton.  Where's THAT guy?

WOOHOOOO!!!!

We got Angry-Kelly this weekend, folks!  His face turned red and appeared to swell, he yelled at the refs, he yelled at the players, he yelled into the starry abyss.

I feel like we're gonna need this more often if he's to be worth the ridiculous amount of $ the AD is paying him.  At LSU you can't just coach....you need to entertain us too.  You need to be a character.  What I was seeing through the first month just wasn't cutting it.

Just took a look at this....I kinda knew the scenario but not the numbers.

LSU started this season with 71 scholarship players, by far the lowest in the SEC (anywhere, really, sans Arizona State and West Virginia), which includes some number of walk-ons that were given schollys.  Of those, there are 12 scholarship seniors.  Pretty sure that's on the low side for us, but I'd have to check to be sure.

The last several years of the Miles era LSU was perpetually the youngest team in the SEC, except Tennessee for 1 or 2 of those years, which went along with his shifting recruiting pitch of selling the program as a quick NFL pipeline.  We were never undermanned, though.

Interestingly, we still rank in the top 10 in 247's composite talent.

Basically, Orgeron recruited 1) talented kids  2) who didn't stay.

Depth and experience matter, and we don't have it.  I guess it's better than the 39 scholly players we brought to the bowl game last January.  This team should lose a lot of games.

Can't say I'm overly impressed with Kelly so far, but I should probably give him more of a fair chance than a usual first year coach.  Kinda impressive how fast O drove this thing off the cliff.  For all his talk about loving LSU, we were only a golden parachute in the end.  Kelly needs to keep the locker room attitude positive b/c the hard times aren't over, and build the roster back up.  Then we'll see what we've got, I guess.  Several of the freshman look really promising.

I'd give him four seasons, at least, unless the wheels come off with something like player discipline.

It does appear he needs to do some serious building of the roster.
