Irving, Texas – Record-setting performances helped four Big 12 student-athletes earn football weekly honors. West Virginia’s Will Grier was named Offensive Player of the Week for a second time this season, while Oklahoma’s Kenneth Murray took home Defensive Player of the Week. Baylor kicker Drew Galitz was tabbed Special Teams Player of the Week and Texas freshman Caden Sterns garnered Newcomer of the Week.
Grier completed 25 passes for 356 yards and connected for five TDs for a program-record fifth time in WVU’s 35-6 win over K-State. The offensive honor is the second for Grier in his career.
Murray registered a school-record 28 tackles (6 solo, 22 assists) in Oklahoma’s overtime victory over Army. Murray’s tackles are the most for an FBS player since the NCAA started tracking the stat in 2000. On Sunday, Murray was named the Walter Camp Football Foundation National Defensive Player of the Week. The Big 12 accolade is the first for the sophomore.
Galitz booted five punts for 228 yards for an average of 45.6 yards per punt in BU’s win over Kansas. All five of Galitz’s punts were downed inside the 20-yard line. The weekly recognition is the first in his career.
Sterns registered five tackles and 2 INTs in UT’s 31-16 victory over No. 17 TCU. He became the first Longhorn true freshman to record two interceptions in a game since 2015. The honor is the first for Sterns.
