Champions for Life Garners Awards

September 06, 2018

The Big 12 Conference’s “Champions for Life” initiative received recognition at the recent Telly and Emmy Awards for its compelling features celebrating the academic and athletic achievements of the league’s student-athletes.

Over 250 Champions for Life (CFL) features across the Conference’s 10 institutions have been produced in the past three years. CFL recognizes the positive impact an athletics scholarship has provided student-athletes that has led to stories of personal growth and success.

During a ceremony at AT&T Stadium on August 20th, CFLwas awarded a Lone Star Regional Sports EMMY for Outstanding Commercial. Other notable recipients at the event included Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who was recognized with the Governor’s Award, and longtime football analyst Verne Lundquist, who was inducted into the Lone Star Emmy Silver Circle.

Champions for Life was also honored in three different categories at the Telly Awards. The initiative picked up a Silver Telly for both Regional TV – Campaign Promotional and Social Video – Media and Entertainment Series. A Bronze Telly was received for Online Webseries – Corporate Image. Additional honorees were CBS Interactive, Lucasfilm, E! Entertainment, and Disney.

“The member institutions of the Big 12 take great pride in the Conference’s Champions for Life campaign,” commented Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “Through our partnership with LDWW, we have been able to produce high-quality vignettes spotlighting the amazing stories of our student-athletes.”
