Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks met his main goal in the win over Charleston Southern this past Saturday. He’ll have the same goal Saturday night against Kentucky, and for the rest of the games this season.
“His job is to manage the game and execute what we call and what we do within the game,” UF coach Dan Mullen said Wednesday on the SEC coaches teleconference. “He understands that. One of the things we talk about is you’re only as good as your last play and you’re only going to be as good as your next play.”
Franks certainly managed the game and executed the game plan in the opener. Playing in the first half only, he completed 16 of 24 passes for 219 yards and five touchdowns. He moved the offense up and down the field throughout the half.
Mullen doesn’t seem too concerned about that performance going to Franks’ head and maybe making him a little overconfident heading into SEC play Saturday against Kentucky.
“He had a good game last week, put up some good numbers,” Mullen said. “I’m sure his Twitter comments and everybody talking about him is good. If he wants to keep them good, continue to manage the game and perform well.
“If you want people to talk poorly of you, go throw a couple of picks and they’ll start bashing you.”
Whatever Franks did last week won’t matter this week, Mullen said.
“He’s a guy that really needs to continue to develop every aspect of his game and make sure we’re very critical on how he does things,” he said. “He’s done a good job this week of putting that last game behind him.
“We’re all into a new game plan, new execution. Everything he did last week, none of it has any effect on what’s going to happen in this game.”
