The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its national coaches’ poll and regional rankings this week. Both men’s and women’s cross country programs from Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Texas were included in the national rankings.
Iowa State (No. 5), Oklahoma State (No. 25) and Texas (RP), were all named to the men’s cross country national coaches’ poll. For the women’s cross country national coaches’ poll, Iowa State (No. 17), Oklahoma State (No. 26) and Texas (No. 27) were voted to the poll.
Along with the national coaches’ poll, the USTFCCCA released its regional preseason rankings. With the season opening on Friday, a combined 90% of Big 12 men’s and women’s Cross Country teams are represented in the USTFCCCA Preseason Regional Rankings.
Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech and West Virginia were all tabbed in the Preseason Regional Rankings.
On the men’s side, seven Big 12 programs were named to three regions: South Central Region (No. 2 Texas and No. 12 Baylor), Midwest Region (No. 1 Iowa State, No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 7 Kansas, and No. 13 Oklahoma) and Mountain Region (No. 15 Texas Tech).
For the women, the South Central Region (No. 1 Texas, No. 4 Baylor and No. 6 TCU), Midwest Region (No. 1 Iowa State, No. 2 Oklahoma State and No. 6 Kansas) and Mid-Atlantic Region (No. 6 West Virginia) saw seven institutions all ranked within the top-10 in the nation in their respective regions.
USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning teams strength with current season results (if applicable) in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
