Despite drawing praise from the coaches for his effort during camp, junior defensive end Antonneous Clayton is not listed on the depth chart the school released Monday.
Only two players are listed at his position — starter Jabari Zuniga and redshirt freshman Zachary Carter.
Clayton said he’s OK with his name not appearing.
“I haven’t even looked at the depth chart,” he said. “I don’t know anything about it. It’s next man up. If my name’s called, then it’s called. If I’m not out there I’m going to be cheering my teammates on. That’s just how it goes.
“I just know when my name is called I’ll be making a ton of plays. That’s the only thing I know. Other than that, when I’m on the sideline, I’ll be cheering my teammates on.”
Clayton likely will hear his name called Saturday night because the coaches plan to play as many as 30 players on defense.
“Yeah, we’re going to play as many based on their preparation and them being ready,” defensive coordinator Todd Grantham said. “The more guys you can play the better, it creates depth. So we’ll roll guys (in), particularly up front, but also in the linebacking corps and the back end as guys get available to play we’ll play them and try to play a lot of guys.
“Being able to play a lot of guys is important. It’s helps your practice, it helps your preparation. If a guy’s able to play and can contribute we’re going to try to get them in the game.”
