Florida coach Dan Mullen, who has disdain for talking about injuries, would not confirm or a deny a report that starting middle linebacker David Reese has a sprained ankle and could miss the opener, and possibly even the first few games.

“You guys seem to know all the injuries,” Mullen said. “It was in the media. Obviously, you guys know about it so I’m good. I don’t need to talk about it. You guys already have the info I guess.”

Mullen said he would release an injury report at the conclusion of preseason camp, which doesn’t officially end until the Gators go through a “mock” game in The Swamp today.

The only serious injury that Mullen has acknowledged is to reserve safety Quincy Lenton, who is out for the season after tearing his Achilles earlier in camp.

Malik good to go

Mullen said he’s not going to hold back sophomore running back Malik Davis in the opener.

Davis had ACL surgery last fall, but it has not appeared to hamper him in camp. He sat out the last scrimmage with a sore ankle, but has since returned.

“I’m going to let him go,” Mullen said. “In the (first) scrimmage we let him go to see his confidence level. Any time you’re coming off a significant injury, you want to see the confidence of them being back out there on the field, getting tackled, making a live cut and a live play.

“Having gotten through all of that, that was the confidence building deal for him. We’re going to let him play.”

Davis was UF’s leading rusher last season before injuring his knee in the Georgia game.
