Two Big 12 Quarterbacks On Manning Award Preseason Watch List

August 16, 2018

The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, announced its preseason Watch List which includes Big 12 standout quarterbacks Kyle Kempt (Iowa State) and Will Grier (West Virginia).

The award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting.

The Big 12 Conference, along with two other FBS conferences, has had four winners of the Manning Award in its history. The most recent winner of the prestigious award was Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma) in 2017. Robert Griffin III (Baylor, 2012), Colt McCoy (Texas, 2010) and Vince Young (Texas, 2006) also represent the Big 12 as previous winners.

Texas stands alone in the Manning Award history as being the only program to have two different winners from the same program.

The winner will again be selected by a voting panel, which includes national media and each of the Mannings, after the bowls. Inclusion on the Watch List is not necessary for the quarterbacks to be selected for the honor. Midseason additions to the Watch List will be announced on Thursday, October 11, 2018. The list of 10 finalists will be released on Thursday, November 29, 2018. The winner will be announced in the week following the College Football Playoff National Championship.
