Final of four articles previewing the Gators as they enter preseason camp. Practice No. 1 is this afternoon at the Sanders Practice Fields on campus:
Can these Florida football players contribute in a big way this season?
David Reese, LB: The true freshman, not the junior middle linebacker and team leader with the same name. His teammates have been raving about him all summer and he has a chance to have an immediate impact at a position of need.
Trey Dean, CB: With Marco Wilson and CJ Henderson holding down the starting roles, there’s a tendency to overlook Dean. But the true freshman showed in the spring he’s ready to play at corner when needed.
Ventrell Miller, LB: He missed all of last season due to suspension alleged credit card fraud case. He showed how hungry he was in the spring, making plays and big hits, all over the field.
Rick Wells, WR: Here’s another guy that missed last season and hasn’t done much in his career. But the former four-star recruit flashed a ton of potential in the spring and will be in the playing rotation at wide receiver.
Umstead Sanders, LB: He doesn’t even have an assigned number yet, but the junior college transfer appears physically and mentally ready to play, bringing depth to an area of need.
Lucas Krull, TE: Another junior college transfer who certainly looks the part. The Gators will find out in camp if he can play and push Lewis and the other tight ends.
Malik Langham, DE: The Gators are pretty well stocked on the edges, but this four-star prospect out of Alabama could have an impact this season if he has a strong camp.
