DETROIT — Former University of Florida standout Preston Tucker was traded late Monday by the Atlanta Braves to the Cincinnati Reds.
The Reds traded Adam Duvall to the Braves for Tucker, an outfielder, and right-handed pitchers Lucas Sims and Matt Wisler.
Tucker will join the Reds on Tuesday before they open a two-game series vs. the Tigers at Comerica Park. It has yet to be determined in the short term whether Sims or Wisler will pitch in the big leagues or Triple-A.
The 28-year-old Tucker was traded to from the Astros to the Braves in December 2017 in exchange for cash and has spent most of this season in the majors with Atlanta. He was hitting .256/.307/.444 with four home runs and 22 RBIs in 62 games. Tucker was with Triple-A Gwinnett at the time of the trade.
Another former UF standout on the Reds’ roster is starting pitcher Anthony DeSclafani, who is 4-3 with a 5.47 ERA in 10 starts following a long stint rehabbing on the disabled list.
The Reds also have other former UF players in their farm system: pitchers Scott Moss (12-3, 3.83 ERA) and Michael Byrne (1-0, 2.25 ERA) at Daytona Beach (High A) and infielder Jonathan India and catcher Mark Kolozsvary (.217, 2 HR, 20 RBI) at Dayton (Low A).
Pitcher Jonathan Crawford is also with Daytona, but remains on the disabled list and hasn’t been active all season.
India was assigned to the Dayton Dragons from the Billings Mustangs on Monday. In 18 minor league games, India is batting .259 (58 at-bats) with three home runs and 12 RBI.
