The 2018 Fred Biletnikoff Award Watch List was released, as six Big 12 wide receivers were named to the preseason list from four different programs.
Both Oklahoma and West Virginia are two of four programs with two Fred Biletnikoff Award candidates on the ballot.
For the second straight year, Marquise Brown of Oklahoma and David Sills V of West Virginia have been named to the watch list, while Denzel Mims of Baylor makes his second appearance to the watch list. Sills V was a finalist in the 2017 Fred Biletnikoff Award race. CeeDee Lamb (Oklahoma), Collin Johnson (Texas) and Greg Jennings Jr. (West Virginia) were also named to the watch list.
Since the award began in 1994, seven winners have come from the Big 12 and for the past three years, a Big 12 athlete has won the Biletnikoff award. Corey Coleman, Baylor (2015), Dede Westbrook, Oklahoma (2016) and James Washington, Oklahoma State (2017) were the honorees.
Of the nine finalists named over the previous three years, three per year, a collective five Big 12 athletes have been named finalists.
The Fred Biletnikoff Award is presented annually to the season’s outstanding college football receiver regardless of position (the award defines receiver as any player who catches a ass, hence tight ends, slot receivers and backs, inside receivers, wide receivers, split ends, and running backs are eligible).
Receivers are periodically added to the watch list as their season performances dictate. Actual, not potential, performance is the basis for inclusion on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List.
The 2018 Fred Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on December 6, 2018, on The Home Depot College Football Awards. College and pro football hall of famer Fred Biletnikoff will announce the 2018 Biletnikoff Award winner on the show.
