Five Big 12 student-athletes were named to the 2018 Doak Walker Award Watch List, as announced by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum.
The five running backs named to the watch list include Darius Anderson (TCU), Rodney Anderson (Oklahoma), Alex Barnes (K-State), Justice Hill (Oklahoma State) and Da’Leon Ward (Texas Tech). Hill was a semifinalist for the award last season.
The prestigious award, named after SMU’s three-time All-American running back Doak Walker, was created in 1989 to recognize the nation’s top college running back for his accomplishments on the field, achievement in the classroom and citizenship in the community.
The Big 12 has had seven previous winners of the Doak Walker Award, with D’Onta Foreman (Texas) being the most recent recipient of the award in 2016.
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name ten semifinalists in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Awards National Selection Committee, will be announced on November 20. The recipient of the 2018 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on the Home Depot College Football Awards on December 6 on ESPN.
