Dear Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa and other Big Ten fans: Thank you, from Land of 10

We had fun, didn’t we?

There was that fourth-down conversion (or was it?) by Ohio State that beat Michigan and spawned a playoff berth.

There was that Penn State run to the Rose Bowl and back to national prominence.

That Michigan basketball run to the Sweet 16 one year and that NCAA Tournament final the next.

That Nebraska collapse under Mike Riley that begat Scott Frost’s return.

That Iowa upset of Ohio State, that Wisconsin flirtation with perfection … and so much more.

For two years, Land of 10 brought you the only Big Ten-centric website with beat reporters stationed in some of our primary markets.

But now, we need to say goodbye.

And thank you.

On behalf of Land of 10, I want to express our appreciation for your readership these past two years.

We began in June 2016 as a Next Generation to SEC Country’s Star Trek. We wanted to cover what interested you as a fan of your team. That meant a lot of football and a lot of recruiting.

We loved telling you stories you couldn’t find elsewhere. Behind the scenes, we held monthly contests to honor our best. Recently, we held a final one for the best story ever for Land of 10. The winner was Sean Keeler’s heartwarming piece on Wisconsin basketball player Nigel Hayes published shortly before Christmas 2016. It’s worth reading … or reading again.

There were so many wonderful nominees, though. If you get a chance, check them out, too:

Land of 10 will stop providing new content after June 30, and I hope you will find some of our talented writers at other outlets. Meanwhile, it was an honor to work with so many amazing reporters, editors, aggregators and others. I’d name them here, but it would take too long, and I’d feel like an Oscar winner trying to race the get-off-the-stage-now music.

I want to thank them.

And we want to thank you.

Editor’s note: Mike Bass is deputy editor for Land of 10.
