As the number of active Gators on major league rosters dwindle, Harrison Bader just keeps hammering away. In a two-game span this week, the second-year Cardinal outfielder went 5-for-10 from the plate with two doubles, a pair of RBIs, a stolen base and a home run. We can start calling him the king of Gators in Pro Baseball (at least until Tebow arrives). That title may be a bit hyperbolic, but many times the path to the throne is won by the law of attrition. Bader and DeSclafani are the only active Gators right now on MLB rosters and Disco just pitched his seventh game this season after missing all of 2017. Mike Zunino you say? Maybe, if he could get his batting average above .200 and not strike out 42 percent of the time.

Anthony DeSclafani (RHP) — Cincinnati Reds
DeSclafani’s started last Tuesday in a 5 ⅓ inning start against the lowly White Sox. The Southsiders blasted their way to three home runs and five earned runs in Disco’s sixth start this season, the most runs allowed by the Reds starter this year. The right-hander bounced back with his best outing this season in terms of length and runs allowed in a win Monday night. It was an all-Buckeye state battle with the Indians in which Disco (4-1) allowed just one run on five hits with three Ks through seven innings.
Johnson was taken out after 4 ⅔ innings of work in his July 4 start against the Nationals, just one out shy of earning his second win of the season. The lefty conceded three runs on 11 hits in his two recent starts and is projected to factor into the rotation for the near future while Boston’s regular rotation tries to get back healthy. The 27-year-old will miss one start as he himself tries to come back from some hip inflammation that landed him on the 10-day DL on Sunday. He is thought to make the last start for the Red Sox going into the All-Star break.
Darren O’Day (RHP) — Baltimore Orioles
O’Day will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on his left hamstring as detailed in our Gators in Pro Baseball coverage from last week.
Mike Zunino (C) — Seattle Mariners
Zunino went 1-for-7 and saw action in just three games this week after suffering a bone bruise in his ankle in a game against the Angels. He was placed on the 10-day DL on Thursday but could miss as much as 2-3 weeks.
MiLB Players
Peter Alonso (1B) — Las Vegas 51s (New York Mets Triple-A)
Alonso connected on his first home run Thursday since hitting three in one game against Triple-A pitching back on June 23. Alonso’s batting average has dipped significantly in that stretch, going from .333 to where it is now at .171. After some speculation about Alonso possibly getting a big-league call up this season, it might be for the best that he doesn’t.
Shaun Anderson (RHP) — Richmond Flying Squirrels (San Francisco Giants Double-A)
Anderson came on in a relief role Sunday for the first time this season. He allowed just one hit through three innings with two Ks and a walk for the Flying Squirrels. Anderson had a few rocky starts in a row in June and maybe this is the confidence boost he needed to take the mound as a starter again, or he could learn step in and relish a long reliever’s role.
Kevin Chapman (LHP) — Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit Tigers Triple-A)
Chapman hasn’t pitched since June 29 and was placed on the 7-day DL on July 3.
Jonathon Crawford (RHP) — Daytona Tortugas (Cincinnati Reds Class A Advanced)
Crawford remains on the disabled list and hasn’t been active all season. He was taken 12 spots ahead of Aaron Judge in the 2013 MLB Draft.
Matt den Dekker (LF) — Las Vegas 51s (New York Mets Triple-A)
The outfielder went 10-for-32 with three doubles, two triples, a pair of home runs and six RBIs to round out his stellar week.
Dane Dunning (RHP) — Birmingham Barons (Chicago White Sox Double-A)
Dunning is still recovering from an elbow injury that landed him on the DL in late June.
Alex Faedo (RHP) — Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers Double-A)
Faedo made his third start at the Double-A level Thursday and was absolutely rocked. He gave up seven earned runs on six hits and only managed to strike out one batter, skyrocketing his ERA from 1.64 to 5.65.
Nolan Fontana (SS) — Salt Lake Bees (Los Angeles Angels Triple-A)
Fontana struggled this week, going 2-for-18, dropping his average to .250 for the year. Both of Fontana’s hits came in the same game.
Daniel Gibson (LHP) — Jackson Generals (Arizona Diamondbacks Double-A)
Gibson had a relatively quiet two-hit, two-strikeout affair on July 2 but was rocked in his two other appearances this week. He gave up three runs on four hits and four runs on four hits in each of his other relief outings, bringing his ERA up to 4.67 for the year and was given the loss in his most recent appearance.
Taylor Gushue (C) — Harrisburg Senators (Washington Nationals Double-A)
Gushue had a monster week from the plate with three homers, six RBIs and three doubles on 9-for-27 hitting.
Dalton Guthrie (SS) — Lakewood BlueClaws (Philadelphia Phillies Class A)
Guthrie was recalled by Lakewood on Thursday after being sent down on a rehab assignment. SInce he’s been back, Guthrie has hit safely in three of four games and has two RBIs.
Eric Hanhold (RHP) — Las Vegas 51s — (New York Mets Triple-A)
Hanhold remains on the 7-day DL and hasn’t played since June 17.
Mark Kolozsvary (C) — Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds Class A)
Kolozsvary went 1-for-11 this week with his lone hit being a single. The catcher also stole a base and is now hitting .202 with one home run and 12 doubles.
Taylor Lewis (RHP) — Free agent
Austin Maddox (RHP) — Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox Triple-A)
After beginning to throw last week, the Red Sox transferred Maddox Sunday from the 10-day DL to the 60-day DL due to an injury relating to his right shoulder. Maddox has been sidelined all season but could still come back late into the season and provide depth in the postseason for Boston.
Johnny Magliozzi (RHP) — Free agent
Magliozzi was released by the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on May 23.
Richie Martin (SS) — Midland RockHounds (Oakland A’s Double-A)
Martin went 4-for-37 this week, plummeting his average to its lowest since mid May (.283). Martin’s 75 hits are now seventh best among Texas League shortstops and his .388 OBP is fifth best at the position.
Scott Moss (LHP) — Daytona Tortugas (Cincinnati Reds Class A Advanced)
Moss (10-2) earned two more wins this week, only giving up one earned run across two starts. He tossed seven scoreless frames in his latest gem, allowing just two hits with eight Ks on Friday. And on July 1, he threw six innings, allowing six hits with five Ks.
Bobby Poyner (LHP) — Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox Triple-A)
Poyner allowed no runs through 3 ⅔ innings across two appearances this week for Pawtucket with five Ks. Poyner has lowered his ERA a full point after being optioned to the minors on June 6.
A.J. Puk (LHP) — Stockton Ports (Oakland Athletics Class-A Advanced)
Puk underwent Tommy John surgery and is out for the rest of the season.
Buddy Reed (LF) — San Antonio Missions (San Diego Padres Double-A)
Reed went 9-for-29 this week to steady his batting average at .324. The outfielder hit his 12th home run, tied for fifth-best in the California League. Meanwhile, Reed leads the league in hits (102) and steals (33) and is also tied for first in average (.324). Reed hit a double and two triples this week with four RBIs and on Monday, Reed was assigned to the Padres’ Double-A affiliate San Antonio Missions and could see his first action as early as today.
Mike Rivera (C) — Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians Class A)
Rivera remains on the DL, where he’s been since June 12.
Paco Rodriguez (LHP) — Chattanooga Lookouts (Minnesota Twins Double-A)
Rodriguez pitched four total innings this week across three games and allowed just one earned run. He only allowed a hit in each appearances but walked three batters in the game he gave up the run. Overall he lowered his ERA from 4.20 to 3.71.
Frank Rubio (RHP) — San Jose Giants (San Francisco Giants Class A Advanced)
Rubio made four appearances this week but was lit up on Saturday for eight earned runs on seven hits while never recording an out. Rubio’s ERA ballooned to 12.91 after Saturday’s outing. He did bounce back a little on Monday to earn a one-out save.
Justin Shafer (RHP) — Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays Triple-A)
Shafer pitched three flawless frames equally over three appearances this week with a strikeout in each. His most recent appearance earned him his seventh save this season.
Logan Shore (RHP) — Midland RockHounds (Oakland A’s Double-A)
Shore allowed three runs on six hits through 6 ⅔ innings on Friday, marking his sixth-straight start without earning a win. Shore struck out seven batters in the start.
Kirby Snead (LHP) — New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays Double-A)
Snead made three appearances this week, two solid one with no runs allowed and one rocky one where he allowed three runs on two hits, including a home run. None of his appearances were save opportunities.
Tim Tebow (LF) — Binghamton Rumble Ponies (New York Mets Double-A)
Tebow has hit safely in every game in July, going 9-for-23 in six games. He had three RBIs and all nine of Tebow’s hits this month have been singles.
Josh Tobias (2B) — Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox Double-A)
Tobias remains on the DL and hasn’t played since May 29.
Preston Tucker (LF) — Gwinnett Stripers (Atlanta Braves Triple-A)
Tucker has a five-game hit streak going and has seemingly broken out of his malaise, turning back into the player he was with the Braves to begin the year. He’s had three multi-hit games in a row including a 4-for-5 outing on Friday and has four doubles and five RBIs through 15 games in the minors. In somewhat related news, Tucker’s brother Kyle was called up by the Houston Astros this week.
Casey Turgeon (3B) — Free agent
Danny Young (LHP) — New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays Double-A)
Young made three one-inning appearances this week, with his first being the rockiest. He allowed four earned runs on two hits, including a home run.
