TOP STORY: Man United to target Tottenham pair

Manchester United’s transfer policy has changed from spending loads of money on big names, to spending loads of money on young British players.

And that means bad news for Tottenham, who have a pretty solid British core: one of which is midfielder/defender/full-back Eric Dier. The 25-year-old is high on United’s list of transfer targets, according to the Daily Star and seems to be out of favour in London at the moment.

Another Tottenham player who isn’t making starts is forward Lucas Moura, even after his heroics in the Champions League last season. The 27-year-old Brazilian winger doesn’t fit the criteria of being British, but his versatility makes him perfect for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans up front and the Star says that United are willing to spend £50m on him.

10.14 BST: A number of Barcelona players have begun to lose confidence in coach Ernesto Valverde following the club’s disappointing start to the season, various sources have told ESPN.

Saturday’s surprise 2-0 loss to Granada signalled Barca’s worst start to a top-flight season in Spain in 25 years. They have lost two of their opening five matches and have just seven points on the board.

The squad flew back to Barcelona straight after the game and will return to training on Sunday. The post-mortem into what happened at Granada and why they were so comfortably beaten will begin then.

Valverde took responsibility for the defeat in his postmatch news conference, with sources telling ESPN that part of the squad has been left disappointed with the side’s performances away from Camp Nou this season — especially the display at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes this weekend.

09.00 BST: FC Salzburg striker Erling Braut Haland is going to be the new transfer saga to follow. The teenager already has Barcelona, Manchester United and Manchester City but the Mirror claims that you can add Juventus to that list too.

Though they probably won’t get him on a free transfer.

United will cling to Pogba in January

The speculation continues to be relentless over a possible Real Madrid move for Paul Pogba and, frankly, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must be absolutely sick of it. Still, he is sticking to his guns and insisting that France international — who ESPN FC sources say is set for contract talks with United — is going nowhere in the January transfer window, despite the club bracing themselves for a second raid from Madrid.

Speaking ahead of United’s match in London against West Ham, Solskjaer indicated that the club were ready for Madrid to resume their chase for the player. He also made it clear that Pogba was staying at Old Trafford. And the Daily Telegraph reports that that won’t change, no matter how much cash the Spanish giants wave in front of them.

Pogba is currently out of action with a foot injury that has kept him on the sidelines throughout September, but that period of inactivity has done little to dampen speculation over just how much longer he’ll be playing for United.

Liverpool eye former Gunners youth star

Liverpool may have a wealth of attacking talent at present, but Jurgen Klopp is apparently casting an eye over a player who ultimately failed to make the grade at Arsenal. Calciomercato reports that the Premier League pacesetters are keen on Donyell Malen, who the Gunners sold to PSV in 2017 for a reported fee of £500,000.

Malen was prolific as a youngster with Arsenal but found himself behind a lengthy queue of strikers in North London and decided to cut his loses and head across the North Sea. It has proved to be a wise move as he has since turned into something of a goal machine in the Eredivisie, scoring five times in a 5-0 win over Vitesse last weekend and bagging another in Europe against Sporting Lisbon in midweek.

Previously a Manchester United and Chelsea target as a youngster, Malen has come of age. Little wonder that Liverpool are tempted to come knocking.

Tap-ins

– He may be barely out of school but Real Madrid already believe Rennes starlet Eduardo Camavinga can teach La Liga defences a thing or two. So says Marca, which tonight reports that those in charge of Madrid’s transfer targets are already honing in on Camavinga, who recently tore PSG to shreds in Ligue 1 — starring in a 2-1 win against a side that demolished Madrid in the Champions League in midweek.

– It hasn’t been the easiest of weeks for Wolves, but there is some good news for fans in the Black Country, with the club apparently close to securing a two-year contract extension for Joao Moutinho, according to the Daily Telegraph.
