ITA Announces 2019-20 Preseason Rankings

Twenty-four individuals and 12 doubles pairings from the Big 12 were ranked in the 2019-20 Preseason ITA National Rankings, as announced Tuesday by the organization. Big 12 men earned 12 singles and eight doubles nods, while the women earned 12 singles and four doubles spots. Additionally, two student-athletes were named in the top-10 freshmen/newcomers rankings.

On the men’s side, five student-athletes from the Conference landed inside the singles’ top-25, led by No. 2 Christian Sigsgaard of Texas, the reigning Big 12 Co-Player of the Year. The Longhorns have two of the top five ranked men’s singles players with Sigsgaard and No. 4 Yuya Ito. Baylor’s Matias Soto was next up at No. 14, followed by No. 18 Alastair Gray of TCU and No. 19 Matej Vocel of Oklahoma State.

Partners Parker Wynn and Bjorn Thomson from Texas Tech earned the No. 2 ranking on the men’s doubles list, the highest of any Big 12 institution. All six Big 12 men’s tennis programs had a doubles team ranked at No. 35 or higher.

For the women, Texas twin sisters Anna and Bianca Turati led the way on the women’s singles rankings at No. 17 and No. 19, respectively. Four other Big 12 schools had a student-athlete included in the top-100. The Turati’s were also ranked on the women’s doubles list at No. 26 overall, five spots behind the highest-ranked Big 12 women’s pairing of Jasmine Asghar and Ivana Corley of Oklahoma.

Additionally, TCU’s Tadeas Paroulek was ranked No. 3 on the list of men’s top freshmen/newcomers, while Oklahoma State’s Ayumi Miyamoto checked in at No. 7 on the women’s list.
