The Big 12 Conference announced Kirsten Davis (Texas Tech), Addisyn Merrick (Kansas) and Mira Emma (Iowa State) as its weekly soccer award recipients for week four of the 2019 season.
Davis was named Offensive Player of the Week after she scored three goals and added an assist in two wins for the Red Raiders over Loyola Marymount and UC Irvine. After leading the Big 12 with seven points over the weekend, the junior forward now leads the Conference with nine goals and 23 points, and is tied for the Conference lead with five assists. Her nine goals in eight matches is the fastest scoring start in Texas Tech program history.
Merrick earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after anchoring a KU backline that allowed just eight shots, four on target, in two weekend matches. The senior defender played all 180 minutes in two shutout victories over Northwestern and Western Michigan. Kansas was the only Big 12 team that did not allow a goal over the weekend. The Jayhawks are tied for the Conference lead with just three goals allowed this season.
Emma garnered Freshman of the Week accolades after scoring the game-winning golden goal in ISU’s overtime win at SIU-Edwardsville. She led the Cyclones with six shots on the weekend and currently leads her team with two goals and five points.
All three players are first-time honorees. Kansas picks up its second weekly award in 2019, while Texas Tech and Iowa State are first-time winners.
