Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks will have surgery on his dislocated/fractured ankle next Monday, coach Dan Mullen said at his weekly news conference.
Franks will be out six months, Mullen said, “Obviously it’s a tragic deal to happen to anybody.”
Franks was carted off the field with the right leg injury late in the third quarter of the No. 9 Gators’ 29-21 win at Kentucky on Saturday night.
Mullen said he told Franks to stay home today and rest, but he was in the facility this morning at the team’s meeting. “As positive as you can be within that situation,” Mullen said.
On other injuries, Mullen says cornerback CJ Henderson and defensive lineman Jabari Zuninga will both be “on the edge” of playing this week with ankle injuries. Linebacker Amari Burney (undisclosed) is expected to return.
The Florida coach again said he expects to play both Kyle Trask and Emory Jones. Mullen sat down with both this morning and told them they’re ready for this moment because of all the reps they’ve gotten in practice.
Mullen said the Gators might have Jones and Trask on the field at the same time in certain situations.
