A pair of K-State student-athletes, along with players from Oklahoma State and West Virginia were honored by the Big 12 for their Week 3 performances. The award winners are selected by a five-person media panel.
Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard garnered Offensive Player of the Week honors, while West Virginia redshirt freshman wide receiver Sam James earned Newcomer of the Week. K-State’s Denzel Goolsby was selected as Defensive Player of the Week and freshman Malik Knowles was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Hubbard registered 256 rushing yards in the Cowboys’ win at Tulsa, marking the highest single-game total for any player in an FBS game this season. The redshirt sophomore scored touchdowns on runs of 75, 30 and 33 yards, with his three TDs matching a career-high.
Goolsby led a K-State defense that held Mississippi State to 4-of-14 on third down, as the Wildcats collected a victory in Starkville. The senior finished with 11 tackles and had an interception that led to first-half points.
K-State freshman Knowles returned a fourth quarter kick for a 100-yard touchdown at Mississippi State, tying the game at 24. He became the fifth player in school history to record a 100-yard kick return.
James caught nine passes for 155 yards and finished with 212 all-purpose yards in West Virginia’s win over NC State. James had a 20-yard touchdown catch and a career-long catch of 51 yards in the win. He returned three kickoffs for 50 yards and a long of 27.
