Five Take Home Week 2 Awards

Five student-athletes from four Big 12 football teams were honored with accolades after strong Week 2 performances.

Baylor wide receiver Denzel Mims and Texas wide receiver Devin Duvernay shared Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Oklahoma’s Brendan Radley-Hiles was named Defensive Player of the Week. Baylor’s Grayland Arnold took home Special Teams Player of the Week and Oklahoma State freshman quarterback Spencer Sanders was tabbed Newcomer of the Week. The honorees were selected by a five-person media panel.

Duvernay logged a career-high 12 catches and 154 receiving yards, while matching a career-best with two touchdowns against No. 6 LSU. In the second half, the senior caught 11 passes for 137 yards, helping UT score 31 points in the final 30 minutes of action.

Mims registered his second-career three touchdown performance in the Bears’ 63-14 win over UTSA. The senior finished the day with seven catches for 101 yards, averaging 14.4 yards per reception.

OU cornerback Radley-Hiles accounted for Oklahoma’s first two takeaways of the season in the Sooners’ 70-14 victory over South Dakota. The sophomore recovered a second quarter fumble deep in OU territory and returned a third quarter interception 30 yards for his first career touchdown that gave Oklahoma a 35-0 lead.

Arnold took a 73-yard punt return for a touchdown in Baylor’s win over UTSA. The punt return TD was the first in the Rhule era and the first since November 2013. The return is the ninth-longest in Baylor history.
Sanders passed for 250 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions, while adding 51 rushing yards in Oklahoma State’s 56-14 win over McNeese State. His 75-yard pass to Tylan Wallace in the third quarter was OSU’s longest pass since 2017.
