Texas Sweeps Initial Runners of the Week Awards

September 03, 2019

Destiny Collins and Sam Worley of Texas were named the Big 12 cross country runners of the week for their performances during the opening weekend of the 2019 season.

Both runners took home individual wins at the Bear Twilight Invitational in Waco, leading the Longhorns to meet victories on both the men’s and women’s side.

Collins sprinted to a first-place finish in the Women’s 4K with a time of 13:17.5, nearly eight seconds faster than the second-place finisher. She was over 30 seconds faster than all other runners beyond third place, and was the top runner for a Texas team that had 12 of the top 15 finishers.

Worley won the Men’s 6K with a time of 18:00.1, leading a Longhorns squad that claimed each of the top seven places in the event. Worley led his team to a perfect score of 15 to beat out the four-team field, 35 points clear of second place.

For Collins, it is her fourth weekly honor of her career, while Worley garners his first.
