Week One Volleyball Awards Announced

The first installment of the 2019 Big 12 Volleyball Players of Week were announced as Avery Rhodes of Iowa State, Skylar Fields of Texas and Emily Hill of Texas Tech were honored.

Rhodes, the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, recorded her third career 10-block match against Ole Miss to help lead ISU to a 3-1 victory. Rhodes’ 10 blocks were the most by a Big 12 player last week. The sophomore also tied a career-high in kills with 10 over UCF.

Texas’ Fields earned Rookie of the Week honors after opening the first weekend of action with back-to-back double-digit kill performances. She 15 kills on a .577 hitting clip against UNI and 14 kills on a .458 hitting average against No. 14 USC. The Missouri City, Texas, native owns the top hitting percentage in the league at .520.

Outside hitter Hill captured the Offensive Player of the Week accolade as she led the Big 12 total kills last week with 66 on a .384 hitting percentage. After a 20-kill performance against VCU, she posted a career-high 29 kills in TTU’s 3-2 victory over Ohio State and capped off the weekend with 17 kills against Lehigh.

This week’s honors marks the first all-time for both Hill and Fields and the second for Rhodes.
