West Virginia was picked to finish at the top of the standings for the seventh consecutive year in the 2019 Big 12 Soccer Preseason poll, as voted by the league’s head coaches. The five-time Big 12 regular-season champion received four of the nine first-place votes, while Baylor and Texas, picked second and third respectively, each received three first-place votes.
Just three points separated the 2018 Big 12 Championship title-winning Mountaineers from the defending regular-season champion Bears at the top of the poll with 75 and 72 points, respectively. The Longhorns were slotted third with 65 total points ahead of TCU in fourth with 57 points.
Texas Tech, Kansas and Oklahoma State were next at fifth, sixth and seventh, while Oklahoma, Iowa State and Kansas State rounded out the poll in the eighth, ninth and tenth spots.
The 2019 season begins on Thursday, August 22 with six teams in action. The remaining four programs will open the year throughout the weekend.
