Forty-two Big 12 student-athletes were named to the ITA Scholar-Athlete Award list for the 2018-19 Men’s and Women’s Tennis season.
Of the 42 listed, 30 were women’s tennis players and 12 men’s.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year and be enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
Not only were the student-athletes recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes, but athletic programs themselves were tabbed as ITA All-Academic Teams as well through the success of its student-athletes.
In order to qualify for the team honor, a program must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.0 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including Fall 2018 and Spring 2019).
On the women’s side, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and West Virginia were honored with the recognition. On the men’s side, Texas Tech was the lone Big 12 institution awarded with accolade.
Oklahoma State walked away with nine honorees, the most of any Big 12 program for the second-consecutive season.
