Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby announces new appointments and changes to the Conference office staff, effective immediately.
John Payne joins the Big 12 in a full-time position as Staff Accountant. Max Calderone was selected Will Hancock Communications Assistant, Emily Honeycutt has been named Championships Assistant and Matilyn Skinner was chosen as Student-Athlete Programs Assistant for the 2019-20 term.
Payne rejoined the Conference as Staff Accountant after previously serving as a championships assistant. He spent two years in the Southland Conference office after he was hired as Assistant Director of Financial Operations in August of 2016. He was promoted to Director of Business Operations in June 2017 and also had oversight of the sport of tennis.
Calderone earned a bachelor’s degree in corporate communication from Baylor University in May 2019 and served as a student intern in the athletic communications office for two seasons. This past year he served as the secondary contact for the national champion acrobatics & tumbling program and assisted with baseball among other sports.
Honeycutt previously served the Southland Conference as the Marketing and Championships Assistant since November 2017. She assisted in the development and coordination of the conference’s year-round marketing and promotional programs while aiding in merchandise planning, sales, game-day operations and event management at Southland championships and the 2018 and 2019 FCS Championships. Honeycutt was instrumental in the creation of the Southland Conference Home Run Derby to open the conference’s Baseball Tournament the past two years.
Skinner graduated from South Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in public relations. As a captain for the Jackrabbits’ equestrian team, she earned All-Academic honors in 2018 and 2019 from the NCEA. Skinner served as the equestrian representative of the SDSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Additionally, the following staff changes have been made. Jeff Jackson was promoted to Executive Associate Commissioner – Men’s Basketball & Game Management, Dayna Scherf was elevated to Executive Associate Commissioner – Championships, Kelvin Smith moves to Executive Associate Commissioner – General Counsel and Edward Stewart to Executive Associate Commissioner – Football. Bob Burda was promoted to Senior Associate Commissioner while Chief Financial Officer Catrina Gibson has taken on the responsibility of Human Resources. Brad Clements’ title was adjusted to Assistant Commissioner for Meetings & Events while Michael Lopez was moved to Communications Coordinator.
