Sources: Pelicans land Redick for 2 years, $26.5M

Free-agent guard JJ Redick has agreed to a two-year, $26.5 million deal to join the New Orleans Pelicans, league sources told ESPN.

Redick joins a Pelicans roster that expects to compete for the playoffs despite the loss of Anthony Davis in a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Redick leaves the 76ers after two seasons in Philadelphia.

Redick’s ability to spread the floor with his 3-point shooting played an immense part in the Sixers turnaround for the past two years. Redick shot 39.7 percent on 3-pointers last season, which freed All-Star center Joel Embiid. His shooting became even more important for the Sixers once the team traded Robert Covington and Dario Saric to Minnesota for Jimmy Butler.

Redick averaged a career-high 18.1 points per game last season, including 63 starting assignments.

Redick, 35, has played 13 seasons in the NBA, including stints with the Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks and LA Clippers.
