UT Finishes 4th in College Directors’ Cup Standings

The University of Texas placed fourth in the final 2018-19 Division I Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup standings, its best showing in 14 years. It marked the highest finish in the standings for Texas since a third-place showing in 2005-06. Stanford won the Directors’ Cup with 1,567.75 points, followed in the top five by Michigan (1,272.25), Florida (1,156.75), TEXAS (1,148.50) and USC (1,075.75).

UT recorded its second-straight Top-5 finish after a fifth-place showing last year. Texas placed in the Top 10 for the sixth-straight year and for the seventh time in the last eight seasons. UT also was the top-ranked institution in the Big 12 Conference in the Directors’ Cup standings for the sixth consecutive year and has been the top-ranked school in its respective league (Big 12 or Southwest Conference) 19 times in the 26-year history of the Directors’ Cup.

During the 2018-19 academic year, Texas won one NCAA team title (Men’s Tennis) and registered four Top-2, seven Top-5 and 11 Top-10 NCAA Championship team finishes. UT’s four Top-2 NCAA team finishes mark the most by the Longhorns since 1993-94. The seven Top-5 NCAA team finishes are the most by UT since 2008-09, and the 11 Top-10 NCAA team finishes mark the most by the Longhorns since 2014-15.

Highlighted by Men’s Tennis’ run to its first NCAA team championship, UT added Top-10 NCAA performances in Men’s Swimming and Diving (second), Men’s Golf (second), Rowing (second), Women’s Swimming and Diving (fifth), Volleyball (tied for fifth), Women’s Golf (tied for fifth), Football (No. 9 in final AP poll), Men’s Outdoor Track and Field (ninth), Softball (tied for ninth) and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field (tied for 10th). Football’s No. 9 final ranking is UT’s best since 2009.

Texas also received points from Women’s Indoor Track and Field (tied for 12th), Men’s Indoor Track and Field (tied for 13th), Women’s Tennis (tied for 17th), Men’s Cross Country (27th), Women’s Cross Country (31st), Women’s Soccer (tied for 33rd) and Women’s Basketball (tied for 33rd).

In addition to its success on the national level, Texas claimed a league-best nine Big 12 Conference championships during the 2018-19 calendar year (Volleyball, Women’s Indoor Track and Field, Men’s Swimming and Diving, Women’s Swimming and Diving, Women’s Golf, Men’s Tennis, Women’s Tennis, Women’s Outdoor Track and Field, and Rowing. UT has captured a league-best 184 all-time Big 12 Championships (regular season and postseason) through the completion of the 2018-19 season.

Texas has now recorded a Top-10 finish a total of 20 times in the 26-year history of the Directors’ Cup: 2nd (2001-02, 2002-03 and 2004-05), 3rd (2005-06), 4th (1995-96 and 2018-19), 5th (2007-08 and 2017-18), 6th (2008-09, 2011-12 and 2013-14), 7th (1993-94, 1996-97 and 2016-17), 8th (2006-07), 9th (1999-2000, 2014-15 and 2015-16) and 10th (1994-95 and 2003-04).

The Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between NACDA (the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics) and USA Today. A revised scoring system was implemented for the 2017-18 season. Division I schools can score points in a maximum of 19 sports, four of which must be baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and women’s volleyball.
