Texas Tech Takes Super Regional Opener

June 07, 2019

Texas Tech opened the Lubbock Super Regional with an 8-6 win over Oklahoma State on Friday at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

The Red Raiders (43-17) built a three-run cushion early in the game, as Dylan Neuse registered a two-RBI single in the second and Cody Masters collected his fifth homer of the season.

Oklahoma State (39-20) fought back to make it a one-run contest on three occasions during the game. In the eighth inning, Carson McCusker’s sacrifice fly cut the Red Raider lead to 7-6. OSU almost tied up the game in the next at-bat, but a diving stop and throw to first from Josh Jung ended the threat.

Freshman Micah Dallas (7-0) picked up the win for Texas Tech with three runs allowed, two earned, on four hits and nine strikeouts. Jensen Elliott (10-4) was credited with the loss after giving up four earned runs on seven hits in four innings.

The Red Raiders and Cowboys are scheduled to meet up in a 5 p.m. CT first pitch on Saturday. If Texas Tech wins, the Red Raiders will punch their second-consecutive Men’s College World Series appearance. Oklahoma State is aiming to force the ‘if necessary’ game for Sunday.
