Twenty-six Big 12 players were chosen on the final day of the 2019 MLB Draft, resulting in 48 selections over a three-day span.
The 48 picks are the most since the Conference had 56 taken in the 2011 draft. The Big 12’s 22 selections in the top-10 rounds are the second-most in league history. The Conference led the nation with four picks in the top-11 of this year’s draft.
On the final day of the draft, Oklahoma State and West Virginia each had six selections. TCU followed with five picks, Oklahoma three, Texas Tech three, Baylor with two and Texas had one.
Oklahoma State’s selections included LHP Brady Basso (Oakland Athletics, 16th round), OF Trevor Boone (Colorado Rockies, 18th round), RHP Jensen Elliott (Baltimore Orioles, 19th round), INF Andrew Navigato (Detroit Tigers, 20th round), RHP Jake Lyons (Baltimore Orioles, 22nd round) and C Colin Simpson (Colorado Rockies, 29th round).
Left-handed pitcher Nick Snyder headlined West Virginia’s six third-day selections with his pick by Arizona in the 11th round. Other Mountaineers taken were RHP Kade Strowd (Baltimore Orioles, 12th round), OF Brandon White (Los Angeles Angels, 17th round), OF Darius Hill (Chicago Cubs, 20th round), C Chase Illig (New York Yankees, 29th round) and RHP Sam Kessler (Detroit Tigers, 34th round).
TCU finished with a school-record nine draft picks in 2019, with five of those coming on Wednesday. Josh Watson (Oakland Athletics, 15th round), Zach Humphreys (Milwaukee Brewers, 26th round), Alex Isola (Minnesota Twins, 29th round), Jared Janczak (Cleveland Indians, 31st round) and Jake Eissler (Cleveland Indians, 38th round) all heard their name called.
Oklahoma’s three selections were reliever Jason Ruffcorn (Cincinnati Reds, 18th round), right-hander Braidyn Fink (Los Angeles Dodgers, 19th round) and infielder Brylie Ware (St. Louis Cardinals, 23rd round).
For Texas Tech, John McMillon (Detroit Tigers, 11th round), Caleb Freeman (Chicago White Sox, 15th round) and Cameron Warren (Cincinnati Reds, 22nd round) were picked up on Wednesday.
Baylor’s Josh Bissonette was selected in the 31st round by Pittsburgh and Luke Boyd in the 38th round by the Los Angeles Angels. Texas infielder Ryan Reynolds got the nod in the 14th round by the Chicago Cubs.
Over the course of three days, every Big 12 program had at least one player selected. The league’s four picks in the top-11 on Monday, which was the most in Conference history and the best among all conferences.
