Oklahoma State, Texas and Oklahoma men’s golf teams finished in the top eight of stroke play to advance to match play at the NCAA Championships. This is the third consecutive year the Big 12 has sent three or more teams to the championship quarterfinals.
Additionally, OSU’s Matthew Wolff won the individual national title at the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship at 10-under par 278. Wolff is Oklahoma State’s ninth individual champion and first Big 12 golfer since Jonathan Moore (OSU) in 2006.
Oklahoma State shot a four-round total of 1136 (-16) to finish stroke play in first place by 31 strokes. The No. 1 Cowboys will face No. 8 SMU tomorrow morning beginning at 7:50 a.m. CT. In addition to Wolff, two others Cowboys finished in the top 10 with Zach Bachou and Austin Eckroat tying for eighth.
Texas and Oklahoma tied for fourth with a final score of 1180 (+28). Texas secured the tiebreaker for the No. 4 seed and will square off against No. 5 Oklahoma in the quarterfinals at 7:50 a.m. CT. OU is the only team to qualify for the match play portion of the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships in each of the last four seasons. Seniors Brad Dalke and Blaine Hale became the first players in NCAA history to compete in the match play portion of the NCAA Championships in four consecutive seasons.
The team national champion will be determined by a match-play format that will consist of quarterfinals and semifinals conducted on Tuesday, May 28, followed by finals on Wednesday, May 29. The Big 12 is the two-time defending national champion as OU won the 2017 title followed by OSU last season.
