The Big 12 Conference’s “Champions for Life” initiative continues to garner national recognition as it captured six Telly Awards for its compelling features celebrating the academic and athletic achievements of the league’s student-athletes.
Since its 2014-15 inception, the program has featured 286 Champions for Life (CFL) across the Conference’s 10 institutions. CFL recognizes the positive impact an athletics scholarship has provided student-athletes that has led to stories of personal growth and success.
“The Big 12 Conference is extremely proud of its Champions for Life initiative,” said Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “The national awards that it continues to receive show the impact of our student-athletes’ inspiring stories. I would like to also recognize our partnership with LDWW in producing this outstanding series.”
CFL picked up two gold awards in the categories of Non-Broadcast: Educational Institution and Online: Webseries: Corporate Image. Gold awards are only presented to the top 3% of work per category.
Silver Telly awards were won for Social Video: Sports and Leisure, as well as Branded Content: Campaign Promotional. CFL claimed bronze honors for Non-Broadcast: Sports and Non-Broadcast: Corporate Image. The Big 12 Football PSA also earned a bronze Telly for Regional RV: Visual Effects.
In addition to the Telly Awards, all three of the Big 12 entries were named finalists in their respective categories in the SVG awards. Two of the five finalists in the Collegiate Conferences and Governing Bodies category for Outstanding Promotional Videos are Big 12 products. The SVG awards show will be held May 29.
The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 to honor excellence in local, regional and cable television commercials with non-broadcast video and television programming added soon after. Its annual awards showcase the best work created within television and across video, for all screens. Receiving over 12,000 entries from all 50 states and five continents, Telly Award winners represent work from some of the most respected advertising agencies, television stations, production companies and publishers from around the world.
The 2019-20 series of Champions for Life will debut in September. To learn more, visit Big12ChampionsforLife.com and follow the campaign on Facebook (Big12Champ4Life) and Twitter.
