Texas Men to Play in National Championship

May 18, 2019

Orlando, Florida – The No. 2-seeded Texas knocked off No. 3 Florida by a final score of 4-2 on Saturday in the NCAA Tennis Championship semifinal to advance to the National Championship in Orlando, Florida.

For the first time since 2008, UT will play in the championship match of the national tournament. This is the seventh time a Big 12 program has made it to the final and it also marks the first team from the league to play in the final since Oklahoma did in 2016.

The only NCAA national champion for the Big 12 came with a Baylor 4-0 win over UCLA in 2004.

The Longhorns dominated the match from beginning to end, earning the doubles point with wins on Court No. 1 and Court No. 3.

Leonardo Telles captured the match winning point with a 6-4, 7-5 victory on Court No. 3 as he helped hoist UT past UF.

Texas will play the winner of No. 4 Wake Forest and No. 9 UNC on Sunday, May 19, at 1 p.m. CT. The title match will be broadcast on The Tennis Channel, here
