THINGS TO CARE ABOUT

Rules changes? Fines? Flops? To say the officiating was a topic of discussion during Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals between the Warriors and Rockets would be a total understatement. The two teams were called for a combined 45 personal fouls and four technical fouls, and Chris Paul was ejected with 4.4 seconds left in the game. But the players on the court weren’t the only ones complaining. Here’s what players, executives and even an owner were saying on social media. Read More

And that’s a wrap … The 2019 NFL draft is in the books. All 254 picks have been made, and now it’s time for some of our annual inarguable, indisputable and incontrovertible draft takeaways. Is this QB class overhyped? Who came out looking like a winner? Here are seven — one for each round of the draft. Read More

Behind the scenes of ‘Endgame’ (no spoilers here!) … You probably saw “Avengers: Endgame” this weekend. So you know the characters (and those of other Marvel films) are out to save the universe. Behind the scenes, though, these two stunt double sisters are out to save the superheroes. Read More

COP OR DROP?

Best kicks of the playoffs … Throughout the first round, PJ Tucker cycled through a rotation of Kevin Durant sneakers from the past decade, including one of the rarest pairs of KDs made: an oft-forgotten green and yellow KD 4 originally made in 2012 for Durant’s mother, Wanda Pratt. They weren’t the only special pair of the playoffs, though. Which were your favorite? Vote below and let us know. Read More

REMEMBER WHEN?

After stealing home-court advantage from the Timberwolves, who finished the regular season one game better than the defending champs, the Lakers headed to Minnesota on April 29, 2003, with the series tied 2-2. Kobe Bryant scored 16 of his game-high 32 points in the third quarter, but these two — blowing by KG’s closeout, going airborne and finishing with a vicious jam over Rasho Nesterovic — were hands down the most impressive. WHAT’S ON TONIGHT?

76ers vs. Raptors (8 p.m. ET, TNT): Philadelphia has not won in Toronto since Nov. 10, 2012, so it’ll be facing a double whammy in Game 2 of its Eastern Conference semifinals: trying to beat the Raptors on their turf, and, more importantly, trying to deal with Kawhi Leonard, who scored a career playoff-best 45 points in the Toronto’s 108-95 Game 1 victory on Saturday.

Rays vs. Royals (8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN+): Tampa Bay stays perched atop an AL East division containing a talented but hobbled Yankees squad and the defending World Series champions, thanks in large part to the Rays’ starting pitchers. We’ll see how the Rays fare against Kansas City, which could use a moment to shine.

Trail Blazers vs. Nuggets (10:30 p.m. ET, TNT): Denver just finished a grueling, hard-fought series against San Antonio. Less than 48 hours later, it has to flip the switch for Game 1 versus a rested and confident Portland team. That quick turn is not going to make things easy against Damian Lillard, that’s for sure.
