Baylor Men and Kansas Women Win Big 12 Tennis Titles

Lawrence, Kan. – The Baylor men and Kansas women captured the 2019 Big 12 Tennis Championship titles at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. Both teams defeated the reigning Big 12 champions.

BU won its ninth Big 12 Tennis Championship trophy, first since 2014, after taking down the No. 1-seed Texas. The Bears captured a 4-1 victory over their interstate rival, gaining a one win advantage in Big 12 title matches overall against the Longhorns (4-3 record).

The men’s Most Outstanding Player award went to Baylor’s Adrian Boitan. The freshman clinched the winning point for the Bears.

On the women’s side, host-school and No. 3-seeded Kansas took on the No. 1-seeded Longhorns in the final match. The Jayhawks took down the defending champs by a final score of 4-2.

This year’s conference championship title marks the first for KU in Big 12 history.

The women’s Most Outstanding Player of the 2019 Big 12 Tennis Championship was awarded to KU’s Maria Toran Ribes. The Algemesi, Spain, native clinched both the semifinal and final point for the Jayhawks.
