REMEMBER WHEN?
On this date in 1981, the Pawtucket Red Sox and Rochester Red Wings started the longest game in baseball history. We say “started” because the game was 33 innings long and lasted over eight hours of playing time. 32 of those innings were played April 18 and 19, until the game was finally suspended. The 33rd and final inning, which took only 18 minutes and was started by a pitcher who wasn’t on either team when the game began, took place June 23. Pawtucket won 3-2.
WHAT’S ON TONIGHT?
Capitals at Hurricanes (7 p.m. ET, NBCSN): Alex Ovechkin might have won the Game 3 fight, but Carolina romped in the battle, whipping the Capitals 5-0 to gain a foothold in the series. Will the “Bunch of Jerks” knot the series at 2-2, or will the defending Stanley Cup champs take a commanding lead?
76ers at Nets (8 p.m. ET, TNT): Philadelphia seems to have recovered nicely from its Game 1 loss, dropping 145 points on the Nets in Game 2. The Sixers will try to keep that momentum going in their visit to Brooklyn tonight.
Warriors at Clippers (10:30 p.m. ET, TNT): You might have heard that Game 2 of the Warriors-Clippers series did not end great for Golden State. Not only did the Warriors give up a 31-point lead and lose, DeMarcus Cousins might be out for the rest of the postseason. We’ll likely find out in Game 3 just how badly the Warriors were hurt — or if they were harmed at all.
