The final Big 12 Tennis Player of the Week awards were announced as Texas Tech and Iowa State student-athletes garnered honors.
Felicity Maltby (Texas Tech) and Maty Cancini (Iowa State) shared recognition on the women’s side, while TTU’s Parker Wynn was honored as the men’s Big 12 Tennis Player of the Week.
For the second consecutive week, Maltby received weekly honors after the Lady Raider captured her second and third straight wins over a top-25 ranked opponent in the No. 22 and No. 23 ranked players in the nation. She capped off her senior season with an 8-1 record in Big 12 singles play.
Cancini went undefeated on the final weekend of Conference play, upsetting Texas’ No. 29 Bianca Turati and Baylor’s No. 61 Livia Kraus at the No. 1 singles line. The junior’s win over Kraus was key in Iowa State’s first-ever win over Baylor. Her comeback victory over Turati is one of the greatest upsets in Cyclone tennis history.
At the No. 1 singles spot in Texas Tech’s upset win over No. 6 Baylor, Wynn recorded a win against No. 22 Johannes Schretter in straight sets. With the victory, Wynn registered at team-best third win over ranked opponents. Alongside tandem partner Bjorn Thomson, the Red Raiders duo took down the No. 1 doubles tandem in the country in Sven Lah and Jimmy Bendeck.
This award mark’s the third all-time for Maltby and the first for both Cancini and Wynn.
